Meter Reading
Meter Reading Instructions
Step 1: Locate Your Water Meter
The water meter is typically located inside your home where the water service enters the building. Common locations include basements, utility rooms, mechanical rooms, or crawl spaces near the main water shut-off valve.
The City is transitioning to Kamstrup flowIQ® 2200 RF meters, which feature a digital display that shows your water usage.
Step 2: Read the Meter Display
The meter display will show the total amount of water that has passed through the meter. If the display is blank, press the button on the front of the meter to activate the screen.
Read the numbers displayed from left to right. This is your current meter reading. Compare this reading to the current (present) reading shown on your utility bill.
Step 3: Compare Your Reading
Keep in mind that you may be checking your meter on a different date than the date used for billing. Because of this, your reading may differ slightly from the reading shown on your bill.
- If your meter reading is significantly higher than the reading shown on your bill, you may have a leak or unusually high water usage.
- If your meter reading is significantly lower than the reading shown on your bill, please contact the City Office so we can help determine the cause.
If you have questions about your meter reading, or water usage, please contact Public Works at 320-905-9445
Please Note: Water meters are read remotely by the City. Residents generally do not need to provide meter readings unless requested. These instructions are provided to help customers verify their water usage and utility bill information.
